The Leafs home opener on Wednesday was anything but boring, with lead changes and comebacks happening throughout the game. An Auston Matthews hat-trick was the cherry on top of it all.
However, some are disappointed in the atmosphere at Scotiabank Arena during the season opener.

Joe Bowen had some poignant things to say about Leaf fans after their home opener against Montreal a few nights ago, calling them out for not being excited during the announcement of the Leafs roster.
"And once again I have to give the crowd here a thumbs down. I'm sorry, I know Toronto audiences are different, but my gosh, really. Get off your butts and stand up!
Leaf Fans Called Out for Lack of Hats After Matthews' Tying Goal
It wasn't just during the beginning of the game that Leaf fans seemed disengaged, either. Criticism over the lack of hats thrown for Auston Matthews' hat trick-tying goal late in the third also made it's rounds over the internet, calling out fans for a lack of passion.
Leafs fans didn't have hats to toss for Matthews' hatty, so they were tossing their free scarfs 😂
Sorry but these guys in suits at the games irritate the heck out of me. Like if that was me I'd be literally losing my mind. The photos of me would be embarrassing. Genuinely wish there were less of these guys in the arena.
There's a video circulating that when he scored the hat-trick goal, there were so few hats flying because of the abundance of suits in the lower bowl. A few free scarves went flying out onto the ice, but other than that, it looked quite empty. I'm joking, of course. I'm sure there were plenty of hats. It's just that the video is amusing
Leaf fans have their shot at redemption on Saturday when they take on the Minnesota Wild at home.
