Insider reveals that Toronto are targeting a Blockbuster deal with this Canadian team

The Toronto Maple Leafs have several needs as we approach the second half of the 2023-24 season, and putting the pieces together, it appears they may just trade with GM Brad Treliving's former team.

A blockbuster deal with the Calgary Flames incoming?

The Calgary Flames recently moved Elias Lindholm, and it signals they are open for business on several players, three of which in particular the Leafs may have interest in; Noah Hanifin, Jacob Markstrom, Chris Tanev.

While Tanev's price for a deal from the Flames is reportedly a second-round pick and more, the Maple Leafs could reportedly look for a blockbuster deal that costs them more, but also nets them much more in return.

Who could the Toronto Maple Leafs acquire?

According to Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek, Hanifin may have always been Toronto's top target, and to land him, they could pair him with Tanev and give away additional assets, or they may look at him as a completely separate target ahead of the March 8 deadline.


Unfortunately for Toronto, there's been much interest league wide in both Tanev and Hanifin, so if they want to land a significant upgrade on their blue line, they're going to have to win a bidding war, and that may cost them significant future assets. Treliving may have recently stated that he prefers to upgrade and build a roster in the summer, but with an offense like this that's ready to win, if he can add at the deadline, they have a shot at the Cup, so keep an eye on a Flames/Maple Leafs blockbuster.
