Insider Reveals major reasons Why William Nylander Needs to get Traded
The hot topic of the week was certainly William Nylander. As you know, negotiations with the Leafs aren't going well, and it could indicate that a trade is imminent.
This scenario would greatly benefit the Leafs, maybe even more than if he stayed with the team. Here are a few reasons why trading him is a solution, according to TSN's Martin Biron.
Solving Salary Cap Problems
The Leafs are facing significant financial trouble as they are well above the salary cap limit. Trading Nylander would solve all their problems.
A High Return
Nylander is still an elite player, and any team that wants to trade for him knows that the price will be high.
Bolstering the Blue Line
One of the major rumors sends Nylander to San Jose in exchange for Erik Karlsson. If the Leafs acquire him, their blue line would become one of the toughest to play against in the league, as well as strengthening their powerplay unit.
More Flexibility
With Nylander out, Treliving would have more space to acquire specialized players. The Leafs already have a few stars on their roster, and Treliving could focus on getting players whose strengths complement the core.
Long-Term Stability
Trading Nylander would prevent Treliving from being tied to another long-term contract that could become problematic down the road.
Getting Rid of Nylander
Nylander's self-centered personality doesn't fit with the culture the Leafs are building in their locker room. Nylander has a history of being difficult to deal with. Toronto could very well continue without him, and the team spirit would likely improve.
In summary, trading Nylander has numerous benefits. If Treliving can make a successful trade for Karlsson, the Leafs would definitely be better off than they were.
