With all the uncertainty surrounding the Leafs' star players in the days following Kyle Dubas' firing, many fans are unsure of what the future holds for their team. Elliotte Friedman has provided a little clarity on the situation, and it's not looking good.

Leafs LockerRroom Unsure of Matthews' Future

Friedman went on the 32 Thoughts podcast recently to discuss the fallout after the Kyle Dubas firing, and Brendan Shanahan's press conference afterward. According to Friedman, the Leafs' locker room is very unsure of how Matthews will proceed now that Dubas has been fired.

Dubas was the one who signed Matthews to his current contract, which expires next summer. He allowed Matthews to have his contract walk him straight into unrestricted free agency, which surely sat well with the young superstar. If Dubas is gone, would Matthews consider leaving?

Veteran GM's Staying Away From Toronto

In addition to his report on Matthews, Friedman touched on the subject of general managers who fit Shanahan's description of an ideal GM, and potential candidates. It turns out, not too many people are keen on taking over the Maple Leafs.

It looks like Shanahan shot himself in the foot with his post-firing presser, as now GMs are looking down upon him for it. It might be a long process before Toronto finds its next general manager.
