Now, it appears that his time with the Maple Leafs is coming to an end.

Brad Treliving recalled Pontus Holmberg from the Marlies, and Minten was the 13th forward at practice.

Here's what was reported by Luke Fox:

"Holmberg centers fourth line at Leafs practice.

Bertuzzi back up with Matthews and Marner.

Minten is the 13th forward."

Minten Back in the WHL?

Even if Minten showed true NHL capabilities on the ice, sending him back to the Juniors could be a smart move for the Maple Leafs.

First, if Minten is sent back to the Juniors, it will extend his entry-level contract, which will make the Leafs save money.

Second, keeping him as the extra forward on the team isn't an ideal scenario for his development. He would simply dominate the WHL and get a lot of ice time.

Finally, it's simply the smartest thing to do for the team in the long term. Minten could grow as an even better player than he already is.
