Brad Treliving has been working the phones to get a trade through but has been rejected by every team he has gone to thus far.

Treliving Offers Up A Sixth Rounder For Goaltenders

Recently, Elliotte Friedman revealed that Brad Treliving has been trying to get a trade through and is leaning in favor of trading a 6th-round pick as opposed to a prospect.

«Elliotte Friedman says that the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving, offered to several teams a sixth-round pick for a goalie, which every team refused. He would have hoped that a team would be desperate enough to trade one.

Luke Fox of Sportsnet speculates that Dan Vladar (Flames), Jake Allen (Canadiens), Eric Comrie (Sabres), and Anton Forsberg (Senators) were among the goalies targeted by Toronto.»

This means that Treliving has offered at least a sixth-round pick to these teams but has likely offered more.

The Puzzling Comrie Move

One of the goaltenders Treliving has targeted was Eric Comrie of the Buffalo Sabres. The interesting thing about Comrie is that he was on waivers the same day as Ilya Samsonov.

Placed on NHL waivers today: Eric Comrie (BUF) and Ilya Samsonov (TOR).

As both were placed on waivers, both also cleared waivers the next day being sent to the AHL.

Ilya Samsonov (TOR) and Eric Comrie (BUF) both cleared waivers.

For Treliving to offer up a 6th round pick for Comrie and then subsequently not claim him off waivers for free is certainly something. It likely means that Treliving was offering more than just a 6th round pick and likely wanted to get some salary off the books.

The Comrie move offers some significant insight into Treliving's moves as it shows that Treliving wants to get rid of something and also wants to get something in return.

Currently, the Leafs are running with a tandem of Martin Jones and Dennis Hildeby, and one can't help but wonder if this will be detrimental to the Leafs down the road once playoff matchups are solidified. We will now await a move from Treliving to see who the newest netminder in Toronto will be.
