In a contract year, William Nylander is having a career season. The buzz this season has been all about whether or not Nylander would sign a contract, whether the Maple Leafs should move him midseason, or whether they should employ him as a full-season rental free agent. With every game that goes by, Nylander's value just increases, unsettling Toronto supporters.

Extension talks heating up for Nylander, agreement soon

Nick Kypreos made a shocking revelation about William Nylander on Tuesday afternoon.

"It's trending closer to the Leafs and Willy getting a deal done, is what I hear"

This season, there have been varying rumors stating that the Leafs are attempting to trade him or that both parties are still negotiating a contract. According to Kypreos, the Maple Leafs and Nylander's team aim to finalize the agreement before to the commencement of NHL All-Star Weekend on February 1.

"The other belief is that it will be a number that's over [$11 million]. $11.25 million is the one that is probably mentioned the most. Times eight.

The other thing you gotta consider is that when the Leafs can frontload this and turn it into a $12 or $13 million upfront signing bonus, it's worth a heck of a lot more than $11.25 million. It creates greater value in real money."

It looks as though all signs are pointing to Nylander remaining a Toronto Maple Leaf for multiple seasons.

Since everyone is aware, Nick Kypreos of "Shea Weber is retiring now" played for one more season before becoming a playoff legend. Those who listened to the most recent Sportsnet roundtable during the Leafs game were told that Elliotte Friendman supported the report.

Further to the report from Kypreos earlier, Friedman says he thinks a Nylander extension could happen as early as this week.

The season so far for Nylander has gone perfectly

This season, Austin Matthews or William Nylander have been the Toronto Maple Leafs' best players. Nylander has 48 points, 17 goals, and 31 assists in 34 games. Despite being viewed as the fourth forward among the "Big four" for years once John Tavares signed, he is now easily the second best forward.

If/when Nylander signs, it will be fascinating to watch how the Leafs handle Mitch Marner's contract negotiations.
