The Leafs organization probably was not too worried about losing Justin Holl. In his tenure with the Leafs, Holl never scored more than 23 points and was just fine defensively but nothing more than that. When the Red Wings offered Holl a three-year, 10.5 million dollar contract, many throughout the hockey world thought it was a massive overpay that would come back to haunt Yzerman and the Red Wings. So far though, things have worked out perhaps even better than Yzerman himself thought they would. Holl currently leads not only the Red Wings but the entire NHL in plus minus, with a plus 8 rating through five games.
Holl never topped a plus minus of plus 16 with the Leafs, which he accomplished in 2020-21 in 55 games. While offense isn't really a selling point with Holl's game, it is noteworthy that he's also picked up 2 assists so far, which puts him on a 33 point pace. While it is a small sample size to project for the entire season, that would be the highest single-season point total of his career by a decent margin. His current career high is 23 points.
