The Toronto Maple Leafs have an illustrious history, with some of the best players to ever play in the NHL donning the Leaf, but all of those records are made to be broken.
A rising star
With such a talented offensive group leading the way right now, there's likely to be many franchise records snapped over the coming years, and even without a contract beyond this year, William Nylander could find himself atop the record books.
Despite being just 27-years of age, Nylander has been a star for the Maple Leafs since his arrival, and now, he's approaching one of the many records held by Mats Sundin in Maple Leafs history.
Overtime dominance
In their recent win over Tampa Bay, Nylander almost nailed the overtime winner, but now, he remains at 9 in his career, just five behind Sundin for the lead in franchise history.
Auston Matthews also finds himself at 9 career OT winners, so whether or not Nylander can come back beyond this season, it appears the record is in danger, and given how good they've both been to start 2023-24, it could happen at any time.
