Today a former Maple Leaf forward received bad news after struggling with his new team.

Maple Leafs Forward Heads South In Free Agency

The Toronto Maple Leafs underwent a lot of changes in management and the roster overall. One of the most notable subtractions happened when Michael Bunting signed in Carolina with the Hurricanes.

Michael Bunting has signed a 3-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes, per @KevinWeekes

Bunting was expected to fill a similar role that he did in Toronto playing up and down the lineup alongside the team's stars. However, through the first couple of months, Bunting has failed to acclimate himself.

This has led to a major move from the Hurricanes which is bad news for Bunting.

Bunting Demoted In Embarrassing Turn Of Events With Carolina

Despite signing a 3-year deal worth 4.5 million dollars Michael Bunting has reportedly been shoved down the lineup. These reports indicate that Bunting will next play with the Hurricanes on their fourth line.

Michael Bunting's ice time has plummeted in the last 10 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, only averaging 12:14 and currently on the team's fourth line.

Bunting signed a three-year, $13.5 million contract in the offseason.

Despite having 12 points in 19 games Bunting is not living up to management and coaches expectations. Until his play improves in the eyes of decision-makers his ice time will likely continue to dip.

It looks as though the Maple Leafs dodged a potential bullet by letting Bunting head to free agency.
