Bunting was expected to fill a similar role that he did in Toronto playing up and down the lineup alongside the team's stars. However, through the first couple of months, Bunting has failed to acclimate himself.
This has led to a major move from the Hurricanes which is bad news for Bunting.

Despite signing a 3-year deal worth 4.5 million dollars Michael Bunting has reportedly been shoved down the lineup. These reports indicate that Bunting will next play with the Hurricanes on their fourth line.
Michael Bunting's ice time has plummeted in the last 10 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, only averaging 12:14 and currently on the team's fourth line.
Bunting signed a three-year, $13.5 million contract in the offseason.

Despite having 12 points in 19 games Bunting is not living up to management and coaches expectations. Until his play improves in the eyes of decision-makers his ice time will likely continue to dip.
