Corey Perry Loses Over $1.5M in Wake of Recent Controversy
Corey Perry is set to lose out on roughly $1.5 Million as a result of being placed on waivers for his recent conduct.
Corey Perry Set To Lose About $1.5 Million As a Result of His Contract Being Terminated
The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers with the intent of termination. The Blackhawks released the following statement explaining why Perry was terminated.
After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player's Contract and the Blackhawks' internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments. As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately.
Now, CapFriendly has shared that Perry is set to lose out on roughly $1.5 million dollars as a result of his contract being terminated. While Perry won't clear waivers until tomorrow, his salary will already be taken off the Blackhawks' books.
Despite being placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, and requiring 24hrs before clearing, Perry's contract will likely already come off the #Blackhawks salary cap as of today, including his salary.
As a result, he'll lose $1,489,583.
Perry is Likely to Clear Waivers Amid Controversy
While any team could potentially pick Perry up off waivers, this is highly unlikely. Not only is the entire Perry saga riddled with drama, but he carries a $4 million hit against the cap, which many teams either don't have or won't see the value in bringing Perry in for that amount.
After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry "engaged in conduct that is unacceptable."
The team has placed the veteran winger on unconditional waivers and plan to terminate his contract, effective immediately.
Because of this, Perry will likely become a UFA after tomorrow afternoon, though it is unlikely that he will play in the NHL this season.
