The Toronto Maple Leafs are gearing up for one of the most important seasons in franchise history, and the last thing they need is one of their top stars missing significant game time.
A core piece
Unfortunately, while it's only pre-season, it appears that is what's about to happen, as star center William Nylander will now miss practice due to flu-like symptoms, with the potential of missing some crucial games.
Maple Leafs D John Klingberg (upper body, day-to-day) and F William Nylander (flu-like symptoms) will not practice today.
It may just be pre-season, but Nylander will miss crucial reps with his new wing partners in Max Domi and Calle Jarnkrok/Nick Robertson, and if he goes into the regular season with little reps alongside them, it could result in plenty of rust.
On top of that, the 27-year old is adjusting to playing down the middle once again, and if he misses significant time, that could halt his progression, so Toronto will be hoping he can have a very quick recovery.
