It has been a hectic first offseason as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs for Brad Treliving, but there has been some reported good news for the Leafs regarding their primary goaltender.

Samsonov Close To An Extension

Insider Frank Seravalli spoke on a podcast recently and it has been reported that the Leafs and starting goalie Ilya Samsonov are very close to a contract extension to lock up the young netminder long term.

Samsonov signed a 1-year, $1.8 million AAV deal with the Maple Leafs last offseason after starting off his career with the Washington Capitals. In that one season, he became the primary go-to goaltender in Toronto and picked up 27 wins with a 2.33 goals against average.

It would be a huge relief for the Leafs to be able to retain Samsonov and we should expect more news to come very soon.
