A former Toronto Maple Leaf has signed a contract with a division rival.

Aston-Reese Signs With Detroit

It was just announced that forward Zach Aston-Reese has signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

UPDATE: The Detroit #RedWings today signed center Zach Aston-Reese to a one-year, two-way contract.

Aston-Reese spent last season with the Maple Leafs where he registered a career high in goals.

He is known as a defensive specialist who can pitch in offensively here and there.

He previously had signed a PTO with Carolina but was released from his PTO following the end of the preseason.

Aston-Reese will now look to help the Red Wings compete for a playoff spot and potentially even take the Maple Leafs down if they faceoff in the first round.
