Auston Matthews has been in the spotlight for the entire past week after he signed his record breaking contract with the Maple Leafs. With Matthews' signing comes a lot of chatter about William Nylander and his potential next contract.
When Matthews was asked about Nylander's chilled out attitude and if he wanted all his teammates to be so calm, he was said the following:
Nylander's Contract Situation
This could also be a subtle jab at Nylander and his contract negotiations. While many players buy into the Leafs and sign extensions early like Matthews, Nylander's contract discussions have been near nonexistent.
He has a nonchalant attitude towards the contract negotiations as he does not believe it is something to worry about. However, time is ticking and if Nylander does not budge on his demands, he may wind up screwing the Leafs over long term with them being forced to trade him elsewhere.
Only time will tell if Nylander decides that he wants to stay with the Leafs or not. The one thing that the Leafs can hope for is being able to get real assets in return for Nylander if he decides that he is worth more than the Leafs are asking for.
