Pre-Season Arrest

Kasperi Kapanen has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated drunk driving, according to Finnish outlet Yle Urheilu.

The 27-year-old St. Louis Blues forward reportedly had his case brought to the North Savo (Pohjois-Savo) district court in late August, and Kapanen is expected to go to court over the incident in February of next year. Neither Kapanen nor his agent have commented on the matter.

Former First Rounder

Selected 22nd overall in the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Kapanen was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for five seasons before being shipped back to Pittsburgh for three more, before they traded him to the Blues during last season. This news comes right as NHL training camps and pre-season are mere weeks away from starting.

According to the report from Yle Urheilu and the Finnish Road Safety Council (Liikenneturva), aggravated drunk driving is when a driver has a minimum of 0.53 mg of alcohol per litre of breath, or a minimum of 0.12% blood alcohol content. It's not yet known if Kapanen will face any discipline by the NHL or the Blues organization, with the team's pre-season beginning on September 23.
