Tristan Jarry, who carried most of the load for the Pens last season, is an unrestricted free agent come July 1st, and has likely priced himself out of Pittsburgh.
Casey DeSmith has one more season left on his deal, but is very iffy as a number one goaltender. It looks like recently named President of Hockey Operations for Pittsburgh, Kyle Dubas, is ready to make a move.
On his latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Insider Elliotte Friedman said he believes Dubas is ready to "announce himself" with a big trade for a goaltender, possibly as early as the NHL Draft which starts on June 28th. Friedman wonders if Dubas is ready to go all in with his first-rounder.
Connor Hellebuyck seems to want out of Winnipeg, but the Jets are reportedly looking for assets that can help them win now, rather than in the future. There has been plenty of talk that Winnipeg does not want to be in a position where it is not competing for a playoff spot.
John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks, who recently told the team of his desire to move, seems like a good candidate. The Ducks are still firmly in rebuild mode, and adding another first-rounder, one as high as 14th overall in this draft, would be enticing.
There is also Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers, another team that won't be competing for a playoff spot in 2024, and probably not the next year either.
