Today, the NHL decided it would not take action against Trouba despite it clearly being an attempt to injure one of the Hurricanes' top players.
If Jacob Trouba had made contact with Martin Necas' head, he would likely have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs.
The NHL Department of Player Safety has chosen not to discipline him at all, however, as the 5PM deadline has passed.
According to the NHL rule book, Trouba certainly could have been suspended for the play.
Per NHL rules: 'A match penalty shall be imposed on any player who deliberately attempts to injure or who deliberately injures an opponent in any manner.'
Not a minor or major. A match penalty. It's actually DEFINED by INTENT, not outcome.
And nothing.
Unfortunately, it seems like we will have to wait longer till Jacob Trouba gets rightfully suspended for his head-hunting antics.
