The son of an NHL legend has hit waivers in a dramatic turn for the worst.

Foote Hits Waivers

Waivers have just been announced and there is one intriguing name on the board that is completely up for grabs: Cal Foote, the 2017 14th overall pick and son of NHL legend Adam Foote.

Placed on NHL waivers today: Robert Hagg (ANA), Colton White (ANA), Jayson Megna (BOS), Brett Murray (BUF), Jujhar Khaira (MIN), Vinni Lettieri (MIN), Dakota Mermis (MIN), Nic Petan (MIN), Cal Foote (NJ), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Leon Gawanke (SJ) and Jeffrey Truchon-Viel (WPG).

Foote was originally picked by Tampa but has failed to stick at the NHL level since being drafted having played in only 141 total games scoring 19 points.

Foote is a 6'4" defenseman who is more known for his physicality with 121 career penalty minutes but despite this, the Devils are putting him through waivers hoping he joins their AHL affiliate.

Foote's brother, Nolan, is a Devils prospect who was drafted in the first round of the 2019 draft but has only gotten in 19 career games over the course of three seasons.

Their father, Adam is an NHL legend who primarily played with the Avalanche and is a player who has had his number retired in Colorado. If Cal Foote were to get claimed, he would hope to find a permanent home where he can establish himself as an everyday NHLer like his dad.
