Jack Campbell breaks his silence for the first time since being sent down to the AHL
The Edmonton Oilers 2023-24 season couldn't have started any worse, and this past week, they found their first casualty in the form of Jack Campbell, who was placed on waivers.
Jack Campbell gets sent to the AHL after a poor start
The 31-year old signed a big deal last season with the Oilers, but has struggled ever since, and after posting a 4.50 GAA and an .873 save percentage, the team just couldn't justify having him on the roster anymore.
Unfortunately, things didn't turn around in his first start in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors, as he stopped just 16 of the 20 shots he faced in his first game with the team.
Campbell reacts to his demotion and reported struggles in net
When asked about the recent move, Campbell responded in an unlikely fashion, revealing that he believed he was playing well enough to remain on the Oilers.
Pretty tough, not going to lie... I felt like I was playing well, had some confidence, but obviously the numbers weren't good enough
If his play on the ice can match up to this confidence, there's a chance he can get back in net for the Oilers, but given his standing in Edmonton right now, he's going to have to turn things around quickly or he will be traded or remain in the AHL for an extended time.
