Perry Addresses The Media For The First Time Since Scandalous Termination

Corey Perry's time in Chicago ended in chaos. He was released for an incident that reportedly happened. Since then he has not spoken to the media. Today that all changed when he and Oilers general manager Ken Holland took the podium.

Perry was asked if he was concerned about his NHL career being done after the way things ended in Chicago. He said he tried to control what he could and improve and take care of himself first.

perry on if he felt he was going to play hockey again: "when it happened and my contract was terminated, i didn't know where things were going to go. at first, i took care of myself and that was at the front of it. take care of yourself, get yourself in a better position, and move on from there, take it day by day. it's been two months and every day is a step in the right direction and that's what i'm going to continue to do."

He continued and spoke about the support he got from family and friends. He also mentioned he feels like he has made a world of progress over the last couple of months.

perry: "over the last two months, i've really had a chance to reflect and get the help and take full responsibility for what happened in chicago, and try to better myself. those are the things i've been working on. i've been working in people in the mental health field, and in different fields. it's been a long time to get back to this spot, to be back on the ice with players, and the nhl. i have to thank my family, my friends, all the support i've gotten. the support from my councillors, just trying to better myself each and every day.

from where i was two months ago, to where i am today, i think it's been a world of difference the help i've gotten and where i've come from."

Perry will now get another opportunity this time with a team fighting for a playoff spot. The Oilers have struggled to find depth scoring within their lineup this season and Perry will likely be a big upgrade in this way.
