The NHLs bad reputation persists, as an incident occurred over Grand Prix weekend between a former professional race car driver and a current NHL player.
Assault Accusations
Former professional Indy race car driver Zach Claman Demelo has accused Detroit Red Wings player Daniel Sprong of assaulting him over Grand Prix weekend at a nightclub. He outlined the incident on his Instagram.
During Grand Prix weekend I was at a night club with @detroitredwings @nhl player @sprong11. He grabbed my neck and pinned me on a wall, we were separated during that scuffle. After when I had believed the situation was over Daniel came back and sucker punched me in the face while I was defenceless.. The photos in the slide before is the after math of the incident. The dental work needed was brutal and I'm still not finished. I also sustained a concussion that l've been dealing with over the past few weeks.
With the NHLs bad reputation proceeding itself, it is taking these off-ice matters more seriously, and deservedly so. We can assume that the incident is undergoing legal investigation and that the events will be clarified by the NHL or the Red Wings in the coming days.
Sprong has just signed with Detroit and has yet to play a game with them.
