Columbus Blue Jackets fire head coach Pascal Vincent

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced they have relieved head coach Pascal Vincent from his role after just one season in charge of the team.

Vincent, who took over behind the bench in Columbus late in September of last year after the sudden resignation of Mike Babock. Vincent had a 27-43-12 record with the Blue Jackets, 4th last in the NHL

In a statement, new President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell said the following on Vincent.

«As I spent time with Pascal over the past few weeks, I found him to be an outstanding person and smart hockey coach who worked very hard last year under trying circumstances, but I believe a change behind the bench is in our team's best interest."

«On behalf of the organization I want to thank Pascal for his work ethic, professionalism and contributions during his three seasons with the Blue Jackets.»

Vincent, 52, had been a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets coaching staff since 2021, and prior had spent 10 seasons in the Winnipeg Jets organization, going from an assistant coach to head coach of their AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.

Sportsnet hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman first reported the news of the Blue Jackets decision.

Columbus says the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
