Jesse Puljujarvi hasn't quite lived up to the expectations of a fourth overall pick, but he is still in the NHL after seven years.

Now a Carolina Hurricane, it appears a second organization is ready to give up on him.

Puljujarvi Unlikely to Receive Qualifying Offer

After being traded to the Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Patrik Puistola, Puljujarvi didn't do much to impress.

Puistola, granted, didn't either, as the Oilers let his rights go for free on June 1st, but the Hurricanes appear to also be ending this deal with nothing.

Puljujarvi's $3M qualifying offer is simply too rich for what he is as a player, and reports are indicating that he will be let go.

"It was a worthy gamble for the Hurricanes, acquiring Puljujarvi for next to nothing, to see if he could find magic with some fellow Finns. It didn't work out. He didn't score a single goal in 24 total games and was a healthy scratch for eight of Carolina's 15 playoff contests."

Possible Future in the NHL Remains

It's likely he'll find a suitor in free agency as he is still an analytics darling and a decent bottom-six forward, but it's seeming less and less likely that he'll become the star many hoped he would be.
