Calgary Flames Noah Hanifin's No-Trade list Emerges
The Calgary Flames have established themselves as sellers at the trade deadline this year as they have already moved out some key pieces. One player that could potentially be on the move is Noah Hanifin and today we got an interesting update on him.
Insider Hints At Hanifin's No Trade List Teams
The 27-year-old blueliner has an eight-team no trade list. As such, he can veto a trade if it would send him to any of those eight clubs. While we do not know exactly what teams are on the list, NHL insider Chris Johnston revealed today that he will likely be heading to an American team.
"The (Calgary) Flames have made a concerted effort to sign the pending unrestricted free-agent defenseman. And they may still have another push to try to get that done. But with a little bit more than two weeks to go before the deadline, it's seeming increasingly likely that 27-year-old defenseman will be moved elsewhere. He's got some say in the matter. He's got eight teams on a no-trade clause - a limited no-trade clause. I'm told that they're not all Canadian teams and that there's maybe an open destination there. But the feeling is he's going to end up south of the border because it is believed to be his preference to sign his next contract somewhere in the U.S. As we look for destinations where he might land there's a number of teams with interest but keep your eye on the Tampa Bay Lightning . They're always the stealth operators at the deadline and they're believed to be looking at him with Mikhail Sergachev out injured." Tampa Bay Perfect Fit For Hanifin Trade
It is interesting how much emphasis Johnston puts on the Lightning here. According to other reports, the defenseman's preferred destination is in fact, Tampa bay.
"Teams that have been in the mix on Hanifin believe that he's indicated, whether it's now or this summer, his preferred destination is the Tampa Bay Lightning"
That being said, other teams are reportedly in on him as well, with clubs including the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins reportedly expressing some level of interest. Regardless of who is calling, it seems rather clear that the market for Hanifin is heating up. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the team has yet to re-sign him and we are starting to get very close to the trade deadline.
