Nikita Zadorov Reveals His Reasons For Requesting a Trade From Calgary
The Nikita Zadorov Sweepstakes lasted a lot longer than many expected but they finally came to an end this week when the Vancouver Canucks acquired him for draft picks. Now the big blueliner has spoken up about why he requested a trade in the first place.
Zadorov Offended That The Calgary Flames Did Not Make Contract Offer
Zadorov addressed the media In Calgary yesterday ahead of his first game against his former team. It seems as though he was offended when the team did not make him a contract offer. It was just last offseason when the 6'6" blueliner stated that he would like to be a Flame for life.
More from #Flames D Nikita Zadorov, to reporters in Ottawa: «Like I said last summer, I would love to be a Calgary Flame for my whole life. But the business side, sometimes stuff happens, you know? My agent has to protect me at some points, for sure.»
Flames Deal Zadorov For Draft Picks To Vancouver Canucks
The trade was announced on Thursday. In exchange for the big defenseman, Calgary got back future assets in the form of a 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick. The price seems relatively low considering the fact that he was traded to a division rival. Perhaps other teams were not willing to offer more than that.
Zadorov appeared to have a special moment in his first game against his former team as he was credited with an empty net goal to seal the deal. However, he correctly pointed out that one of his teammates touched the puck on its way toward the net.
Regardless of who touched the puck last, Zadorov will likely be happy to be in a new home. While He expressed a desire to stay with the Flames for his whole career, the team seems to moving in the rebuilding direction while the Canucks are an up and coming team. They figure to have a lot more playoff success in the coming years.
