Earlier today, it was revealed that Topi Ronni, a Calgary Flames prospect was to appear in court over a very serious legal matter in Finland, and now, the team has commented on the issue.
A major issue
Ronni, a former second round pick of the Flames has been dealing with the situation for two years now, and had this to say after the ordeal became public.
Today I have received a summons to appear in court. The last two years or more have been difficult while waiting for the case to proceed. I trust that the course of events will be clarified in the course of the trial. For the time being, I will be away from the team and concentrate on the case.
The 19-year old is now officially done with his Finnish Hockey League team for the time being as this plays out.
Flames comment
Now, with the news reaching media outlets in North America, the Flames have commented on the situation.
We became aware of a potential legal issue with Topi Ronni following our selection of him in the 2022 NHL draft. We take this matter seriously and will let the legal process follow its due course. We have no further comment at this time.
The Flames revealed that they became aware of the issue after Ronni was already drafted, and now, with the legal matter impending, they like the rest of us will have to wait until the legal process plays out.
