Since being drafted 1st overall back in 2018, Rasmus Dahlin has steadily grown into one of the NHL's best defensemen. The young Swede has grown both his offensive and defensive game tenfold and is due for a massive pay raise from the Sabres.
Dahlin to Receive a Massive Payday
According to a recent report by Chad DeDominicis, the Sabres are nearing a massive extension with Rasmus Dahlin that would pay him around $10 million annually for 8 years. That would give Dahlin one of the largest contracts in the NHL, especially among defensemen.
While the extension cannot be announced until one calendar year before his current contract expires, which is July 1st, it appears as though the deal is all but signed.
Analytics Darling
Advanced analytics are being used increasingly more in hockey, and the data seems to support Dahlin getting such a massive contract.
No matter which way you look at it, Dahlin is not just one of the best defensemen in the NHL, but one of the best players in the league. He is every bit deserving of the massive pay raise he's in for, and Sabres fans should be happy to have such a talented player on their blueline.
With fellow youngster Owen Power also on the rise, Buffalo's defense will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
