Nicolas Savoie, who won the Memorial Cup in 2023 with the Quebec Remparts, has been suspended by his team after he expressed his wishes to pursue academic aspirations.
While players often quit hockey to return to school, we don't often hear about a team suspending him, even for contract termination purposes.
"The @AmerksHockey have suspended defenseman Nicolas Savoie with the intention of terminating his American Hockey League contract at the request of Savoie to pursue educational opportunities."
A deal is reportedly already in place between Savoie and the University of New Brunswick. The defenseman, after sitting out on the rest of the current season, will play for the UNB Reds for the 2024-25 season.
He played three games in the AHL this season, with the Americans, and 21 games in the ECHL.

He played 21 ECHL games this season, and had a *three* game callup for the AHL's Rochester Americans." Steiner said.
