While the Anaheim Ducks have been overall terrible in recent years, they've no doubt got some exciting young pieces, with the most potential of all coming from young forward Trevor Zegras.
Excitement personified
Some may not agree or enjoy his methods on the ice, but there's no doubting Zegras has brought more attention to Anaheim, and with that, it's expected he's a major part of their future.
However, it appears the Ducks are unwilling at this point to extend him long-term, which becomes even more puzzling when you consider the ease at which an extension came for Troy Terry just a few short weeks ago.
Future elsewhere?
On 32 Thoughts the podcast, Elliotte Friedman has revealed that the most likely scenario for the young forward is a bridge deal as this team looks to grow and develop together.
Zegras needs a contract for the Ducks and one of the things we're hearing is that's likely to be a bridge deal. It doesn't look like that's gonna be a long term deal. It sounds like Zegras and the Ducks, when it gets done, is going to be a bridge.
This isn't unusual, as we saw the same thing a few weeks ago with Alexis Lafreniere, as well as the likes of Matthew Tkachuk in Calgary in recent years, so while it may result in him leaving the team, it appears Anaheim are ready to take that risk.
