Today the Boston Bruins made a major roster move placing one of their top stars on injured reserve.
Bruins Star Placed On Injured Reserve
The Boston Bruins announced earlier today that they have put two key players on injured reserve. Both defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward Pavel Zacha will be out long-term.
The Bruins have placed Charlie McAvoy and Pavel Zacha on injured reserve.
Boston has recalled Patrick Brown from Providence and recalled Parker Wotherspoon from Providence on an emergency basis.
In a corresponding move, the Bruins have called up Patrick Brown and Parker Wotherspoon both on an emergency basis. With both of these players out other Bruins will need to pick up the slack.
Bruins Will Look For Others To Step Up In Star Roles
With the Bruins now down a key player on both ends of the rink they will need to find players who can fill the roles in the meantime.
On defense, former top defensemen Hampus Lindholm and Kevin Shattenkirk will likely be relied on to pick up the offensive burden created with McAvoy out. Defensively Brandon Carlo and potentially Matt Grzelcyk will need to step up.
On offense, veterans like Jake DeBrusk and James Van Riemsdyk will be relied on the most to step up. Trent Frederic or Matthew Poitras could factor in more if they start off hot in Zacha's absence.
The Bruins currently sit first in a very competitive Eastern Conference. While they can afford to lose a couple of games a losing streak could bump the Bruins into a bad spot.
