Brad Treliving's first major move as Leafs GM may be to extend core-four member William Nylander. We now know where the two parties stand on a possible salary.

Minimum $8-Million For Nylander

Per Chris Johnston, Nylander and the Leafs are a about $1.5-million apart in their negotiations, and they will likely land up with a figure around $9-million.
Toronto's offer to Nylander likely «starts with an 8» and for Nylander side likely starts with a 9-9.5. He wonders if 8 years keeps it under $9M..

Comparables on Their Side

The New Jersey Devils signed Jesper Bratt to an 8-year, $63-million deal this morning, with an annual average value of $7.875-million.
While Nylander is definitely a better player, this type of contract is a phenomenal base for Toronto.
We will see where Nylander eventually ends up, but it definitely looks like he has a long future in Toronto ahead.
