Elliotte Friedman just revealed moments ago that Shane Wright is going to the Nashville Predators in a move that also involves Matthew Wood.

Over the last few seasons, the Seattle Kraken have shown interest in trading away their former fourth overall NHL Draft Pick, Shane Wright.

Just moments ago, it was revealed by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet that a deal is about to become a reality. It will include the Nashville Predators, who are putting Matthew Wood in the package.

It was subsequently confirmed that the trade is an exact one-for-one. Wood is going to the Kraken, while Wright goes to the Predators. No draft picks or extra prospects are involved.

Shane Wright was supposed to be the number one overall pick in 2022, although the Montreal Canadiens infamously went with Juraj Slafkovsky. Subsequently, the Kraken took him at number four.

A year later, the Predators took Wood with the 15th overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. Wood, like Wright, has gotten off to a slow start this season. Wood has three points in 14 games and Wright has four points in that same span.

Why this trade was made?

With 82 points in 183 career NHL games, Shane Wright has proven to be too inconsistent for the Kraken, a team that is slowly becoming irrelevant within the grand scheme of the NHL.

They are a team that desperately needs something new, and Wood is showcasing that he is an interesting prospect with potentially more upside than Wright.

With 30 points in 71 games last season, there is room to grow for Wood. Clearly, the Kraken feel as though he suits their roster a whole lot better.

As for the Predators, this feels like the wrong move for them to make, although clearly they feel otherwise as they move on from a former first-round pick for another.

Time will be the true indicator of whether or not this is a trade that actually works out for all of the sides involved.
