The Dallas Stars have traded forward Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a 2026 3rd Round and 2025 4th Round pick.

According to NHL Insider Chris Johnston, who broke the news on Thursday evening, the Dallas Stars have traded forward Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken as a cap dump after re-signing Matt Duchene earlier in the day.
The Kraken are sending the Stars a 2026 third-round pick as well as a 2025 fourth-round pick as the team looks for ways to give themselves a reliable and consistent Top-9 presence without breaking the bank.
Seattle seemed to make it official as they also revealed the trade on social media.
It's a very affordable cost for the Kraken given that they needed some additional scoring and he's able to bring some playoff experience as well.
Marchment, 30, had 47 points in 62 games this season with the Stars (22G, 25A) and is owned $4.5-million for the next season; he is a free agent come Summer 2026.

Toronto misses out yet again, need to start making moves ASAP

It certainly throws a whole bunch of cold water on the rumors that the Maple Leafs were in talks with the Stars trying to acquire Marchment themselves.
It's yet another player who Toronto misses out on this summer either through trades or free agency, and with time slowly ticking for them to make some kind of move; it's getting urgent.
At this point even a Matthew Knies extension would ease some of the anxiety that fans have regarding what the Maple Leafs' plans are. It gives them at least some sense of direction, and they can figure out who best to add from that point on.
Perhaps they had a deal done but Marchment didn't want to head there, or the team has decided to put all their eggs in one basket at the last minute.
But whatever they end up doing, they need to start doing it quicker than they have been. If they want to make a change so badly, they're running out of options to do so.
