Boston Bruins Reportedly Rejected Trade Offer For Linus Ullmark
The Boston Bruins have been looking to reshape their roster this offseason. After the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, the Bruins are in desperate need of center depth. They reportedly got close to a deal sending Linus Ullmark out of town to further reshape the roster.
Ullmark On His Way Out?
According to a new report by Ty Anderson from 98.5 The Sports Hub the Bruins turned down a trade for Ullmark this summer. The deal is rumored to have been fair value for the Vezina winning goaltender.
Knowing their cap situation and how they had to ditch money, teams were eager to rip the Bruins off at every stop and turn. (The fact that they didn't have to throw in a pick to get rid of Taylor Hall's $6 million salary is probably a miracle, though it explains why the Bruins received two minor-league defensemen in exchange for Hall.) Ullmark also had considerable trade protection, with a no-trade clause that required his consent to be traded to about half the league.

Anderson mentions that while talks were had nothing materialized. With Ullmark's no-trade clause, any negotiation would need to be approved by him as well. It sounds as though there were multiple moving parts in these negotiations as another deal would have to go along with Ullmark being moved.
While no deal came to fruition it does confirm that the Bruins have entertained Ullmark trades. With this in mind where do things stand with Jeremy Swayman and his future in the Bruins organization?
Swayman Staying Put
There had been rumors that Jeremy Swayman was looking for a way out of Boston and closer to his family in Alaska. These rumors have now been confirmed to be false by Ty Anderson.
As it relates to trading Jeremy Swayman, I don't think the Bruins were ever all that interested in doing that. I also know that there was a rumor out there that suggested that Swayman wanted a trade to be closer to family in Alaska. What I can tell you regarding that is that Swayman's parents no longer live in Alaska, and that that rumor is and was «bogus.»

With Swayman still happy to be in Boston it appears the duo of himself and Linus Ullmark will begin the 2023-24 season together. If the Bruins struggle to start the year or feel the need for more star power up front Ullmark could be the piece used to make a deal happen. This of course relies on Swayman continuing to play well.
It will be interesting to see how the Bruins handle the upcoming season. Their core has changed but it is hard to bet against the team that just set the NHL wins record even if they are missing a few pieces.
