Paul Bissonnette decided to add a lot of fuel to the Brad Marchand fire as he claimed that a deal to the Toronto Maple Leafs was basically set in stone.

With all the rumors surrounding Brad Marchand to the Toronto Maple Leafs, it isn't surprising to see that Paul Bissonnette is throwing around some crazy speculation knowing how deeply passionate he is about the team.
However, his latest statement on the matter is sure to drum up a lot of potential talks as he was very confident in the fact that the Maple Leafs can sign him.
So confident in fact, he thinks it's set in stone.

Marchand to Toronto a done deal: Paul Bissonnette

Appearing on his Spittin' Chiclets podcast, Bissonnette decided to stoke the flames of Marchand to Toronto by pouring a whole bunch of gasoline onto things:
You guys are trying to think of a rhyme for Illuminati for this; but this name I'll mention; but I heard rumblings that is has been agreed upon. 4x9 for Brad Marchand.

I have agreed to it [laughter], Toronto has agreed to it. He just hasn't seen it yet. He's actually blocked the emails coming in from Toronto, but that would be unreal, a culture-setter; that would make losing Tavares, if you do, maybe not as painful. We knew Marner was gone. - Paul Bissonnette

It's quite a startling revelation if true, and clearly the team can't necessarily put anything into action until July 1, and Bissonnette might just be doing some very wishful thinking.
Or maybe he's really onto something.
Sharing a personal text with his unnamed and mysterious source, Bissonnette seemed to confirm that the information he heard was true and was simply confirming it to the masses.

Is $36-million too much for Marchand?

Considering we heard that Marchand wanted a potential $8-million for the next few seasons, it wouldn't be out of line to pay him that much and rewards him for being one of the best playoff performers of the last decade and a half.
But at a time when Toronto is going to say farewell to Mitch Marner, perhaps do the same for John Tavares, and still need to figure out Matthew Knies' future; paying $9-million a year for a 36 year old sounds a bit absurd.
Though this is Marchand we're talking about. A two-time Cup winner with 158 career playoff points, he's the type of player Toronto has lacked and will bring them a solid amount of regular season production on top of making their playoff team immensely better.
Regardless of a rising cap though, paying him that much money until he's 40 is crazy considering that the team already has several older players locked up long-term.
Time is the ultimate equalizer and for the Maple Leafs, they have no guarantees that Marchand will continue what he's doing, and one injury can derail everything in one fell swoop; and injuries get more prevalent with age.
It's a gamble that Brad Treliving needs to make sure he's certain he can win at least something from.
