There have been some rumblings that the Maple Leafs are interested in Jaden Schwartz, a former Craig Berube player who would bring the changes Toronto needs.

As the offseason continues on with radio silence from the Maple Leafs, fans are getting a bit antsy when it comes to what the team is going to do this summer. They still have contracts to figure out, free agents to bring in and figure out a potential trade or two.
The team has been linked to several names on both the free agent and trade market including Sam Bennett, Brad Marchand, and at one point Mason Marchment before he was dealt. They've seen a lot of targets drop off the list, and if Brad Treliving wants to change the DNA; he needs to make a move soon.
Which is why he's taking a look at all potential options, and that includes one of Craig Berube's former players.

Jaden Schwartz being targeted by the Maple Leafs

A source has claimed that the Maple Leafs are targeting Seattle's Jaden Schwartz in order to shore up their forward depth this offseason.
While there is nothing confirmed, it makes a lot of sense for the team to target a player who a lot of success under Berube.
Schwartz, 32, is coming off a very solid 49 point season (26G, 23A) and has the potential to hit 20 goals every year. He's not the biggest player, but clearly Berube enjoyed what he brought to the table.
Also a very solid playoff performer, he put up a blistering 20 points in 26 games the year he won the Cup with Berube, and has 64 points in 103 career postseason games.
Schwartz also has the discipline and defense necessary to help the team, and while he isn't as physical as some of the other players on the team, he isn't afraid to finish checks or block shots here and there.

Can Toronto make a deal for Jaden Schwartz?

Considering that he makes a fairly reasonable $5.5-million, Toronto could easily take that contract up from under Seattle; a team who needs to figure out a few contracts of their own.
They just added Marchment and his $4.5-million deal, and while it's cheaper than Schwartz, they really can't afford to keep both.
So it wouldn't be too surprising to see the Maple Leafs toss a couple of picks towards Seattle, or maybe a cheap deal involving the likes Calle Jarnkrok or David Kampf (after July 1 that is) and a pick could be enough to suffice.
It gives Toronto a new player who clearly has success with their head coach, get them from under some bad deals and away from players who don't fit in the system anymore.
There's going to be a lot of eyes on Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs this summer, and from the sounds of it: Moves are going to be made in due time.
