NHL game delayed after serious highway incident in Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Penguins game tonight against the Montreal Canadiens has been delayed, the Penguins announced.
Pittsburgh announced on social media that their game at the Montreal Canadiens, scheduled for 7:00p.m., was re-scheduled for 7:30.
The Penguins said the reason was due to an accident on Pittsburgh's I-279 highway that happened earlier in the day.
According to local news outlet WTAE, the accident happened in the afternoon after a tractor-trailer carrying steel crashed on the southbound lane, with no injuries being reported.
Reporter Renaud Lavoie reports that members of the Penguins are among those stuck in traffic, unclear if they have made it to the arena or not.
According to Pittsburgh Penguins writer Josh Yohe, the route is commonly used by members of the team, with multiple players currently not having yet made it from heavy traffic.
The Penguins confirmed that doors would still be open at their normal start time at 6:00p.m., with the game to still commence tonight, but to a 30 minute delay.
If the game would be delayed later if not everyone has arrived for warmups could be possible, but not outlined. The game at this time is still scheduled for 7:30.
