NHL Department of Player Safety Announces Official Decision On Connor Zary's Headshot vs. Vancouver
The NHL DPoS decided to announce that Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary had a hearing for his actions on Wednesday. Did he get suspended or walk free?
On Wednesday night, the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks had a thrilling game that ended in a shootout victory for the Canucks. However it wasn't without controversy as forward Connor Zary got
caught up in some hot water. After teammate
Nazem Kadri took a clean but vicious hit from Vancouver's
Elias Pettersson (no, not him) he got a receipt courtesy of Zary, who clearly went elbows up and laid in a dirty headshot to Pettersson.
Zary only received a two minute minor for interference on the play, and it was a bit egregious he didn't receive more.
However, the NHL certainly thinks he might, as the forward is scheduled to have a hearing with the league's Department of Player Safety.
Well, the league has officially announced that Zary has received additional punishment for his actions.
The sophomore forward was handed a two game suspension by the league for his actions, and it will see him miss the Flames next two games against the Colorado Avalanche and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Zary is eligible to return March 18 against the New York Rangers.
This season,
Zary has 24 points in 49 games with a minus-7 rating and 14 PIM. He was drafted 24th overall by the Flames in 2020.
It's a sign that the NHL is going to (hopefully) crack down more on these types of incidents and regardless if you're a new offender or not, you will end up facing some punishment.
