Max Domi Makes Bold Statement as Leafs Fight for Division Title

Max Domi gives an explicit response on what it would mean to be the best team in the Atlantic Division as the Leafs fight for top spot.
In typical fashion, Max Domi didn't shy words about what it would mean to be the top team in the Atlantic in a competitive year atop the division standings for a
key playoff spot.
The Toronto Maple Leafs sit two points of the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers with an extra game in hand on Florida, Toronto currently having a 39-22-3 record in 64 games, Florida having an extra win in 65 games.
Sitting right behind Toronto and Florida is the Tampa Bay Lightning with 78 points in 64 games and a 37-23-4 record.
Despite the bragging rights of winning the division, seeming more like a consolation with the Washington Capitals running away with the top spot in the Eastern Conference with 94 points, Max Domi isn't focused on being the Atlantic's best, only on the bigger picture.
Domi Not Focused On Thought Of Winning Division
Although winning the Atlantic Division would be an accomplishment for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Max Domi isn't worried about that.
Domi's real focus is on beating every team they're up against, not doing so to win a division as he expressed quite candidly.
To Domi, and perhaps the Toronto Maple Leafs as a whole, winning the division is a minor accomplishment compared to the ultimate goal of winning the Stanley Cup.
As winning a division or even the Presidents' Trophy as the top regular season team in the NHL plays little into guaranteeing Stanley Cup success, it is understandable why regular season accomplishments aren't what is on Domi's mind in terms of winning.
For teams winning the Presidents' Trophy, it's a nice accomplishment, not once that brings a title to your team at the end of the day.
The Boston Bruins broke the NHL points record in 2022-23 en route to winning the Presidents', only to lose in the first round to the Florida Panthers, a measly consolation being the best regular season team.
No team has won both the Stanley Cup and the Presidents' Trophy since the Chicago Blackhawks in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 NHL season.
Domi, 30, has four goals and 25 points in 56 games played for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.
