Kyle Dubas Reveals Plan for Goaltending at the Trade Deadline
Kyle Dubas has a big decision to make. Will he run with Murray and Samonov, or will he look for a spark in net? He has now revealed his plans:
Dubas Reveals His Goaltending Plans
After acquiring Ryan O'Reilly and
Noel Acciari from the St. Louis Blues, the sense was clear - the Maple Leafs are
all-in this year.
Thus it would be logical for them to add a goalie, since it's their most fragile position.
Matt Murray has been injured too often to count on him in the Playoffs, while
Ilya Samsonov may not quite be ready for the full-time position.
If one of them is injured, their depth chart consists of Erik Kallgren and
Joseph Woll.
Kallgren played as a full-time backup for the Leafs for over half of the 2021-22 campaign, but he's been underwhelming in the AHL this year.
Woll has been fantastic in the AHL, but hasn't quite been able to translate his skills to the NHL.
When asked point blank if the Leafs intended on making a goaltending move at the deadline, Dubas responded that he was confident with their current group.
We will just have to wait and see if this was the right decision.
