O'Reilly of course is the main piece of the deal. Not even four years removed from a Conn Smythe trophy, O'Reilly is one of the most respected players in the sport.
He provides a brilliant two-way game that all teams love. He is consistently in the Selke conversation.
While his accolades make him seem like he's already in his late 30s, he's actually only 31.
As an expiring UFA, Kyle Dubas is likely already looking at extending O'Reilly. If you look at Marc Giordano and Jason Spezza, players are clearly willing to take a little less money to live their childhood dream of being a Maple Leaf.
O'Reilly's play has equally deteriorated from when he signed his $7.5-million annual extension.
Could a deal in the realm of $4.5-million for five years be in the works? With Alex Kerfoot expiring, and the salary cap going up by $1-million, it is entirely reasonable.
Having expressed he wasn't looking for a rental, this is a very real possibility, and a very exciting one for Leafs fans.
It's getting pretty hard to imagine they'll have a first round exit this year!
