Insider Reveals the Expectation of a New Contract For William Nylander, and Toronto Might Have to Let Him Go
William Nylander is enjoying a career season right now.
He has outshined Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner this far this year, and he is defining himself as an individual player, rather than a complementary piece.
He will be eligible for a contract extension come day-one of free agency, as he will become an unrestricted free agent following the 2023-24 season.
It is unsure if he will stay in Toronto or not, but new insider information reveals that he may have priced himself out of the Maple Leafs' budget.
Darren Dreger insists that Nylander's next deal is quickly approaching the range of Mitch Marner, who's making $10,903,000 annually. With Auston Matthews due for an extension at the same time, Nylander could simply become a major cap casualty for the team.
Unless Nylander agrees to take a major team discount, we will likely be seeing him in different threads in 2024.
