The Chicago Blackhawks placed defensemen TJ Brodie on waivers on Saturday as they look to make changes this summer.

With all the changes this summer for teams, many of them are going to have some tough decisions such as signing certain free agents, making trades and buying out contracts.
Among the bevy of trades and deals we've already seen, there's going to be a slew of them to come in the following days.
The Blackhawks have started a bit early as the team announced they are placing TJ Brodie on waivers for the purpose of buying out his deal.
The news was broken by The Fourth Period's Dave Pagnotta on X, and he explained that the buyout will cost just over $3-million this year and peanuts the following years.
Brodie didn't necessarily have the best tenure in Chicago as he only managed 10 points in 54 games (2G, 8A) which is a far cry from some of his past seasons.

Spending parts of four seasons with the Maple leafs, Brodie skated in 274 games and registered 82 points with the team.
Now he'll become a free agent and be able to work with any team come July 1, but there are questions about whether or not he'll be more than a 3rd pairing option.
It wouldn't be surprising to see the Maple Leafs take a crack at him one more time as they need to inject some life into their defensive corps offensively and he's had success here previously.
The issue is too that the team already has a ton of older defenders locked up long-term and if they want to change that DNA, maybe going old isn't the way to do it.
Though they'll definitely need to get some other housekeeping duties finished first, but if Brodie is available after July 1, expect Brad Treliving to take a look once again.
