Don Cherry and Ron MacLean were synonymous with Hockey Night in Canada, though according to Cherry in a new interview; the two have some serious ill will.

Although he's been off television for the last six years, Don Cherry was still keeping tabs on the league, and put together his podcast 'The Don Cherry Grapevine Podcast', which has since been discontinued due to Cherry's age.
The voice of Coach's Corner on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, Cherry was fired for his comments towards certain demographics back in 2019, with it being a controversial, and hotly debated situation.

Don Cherry's frustrated and disappointed in Ron MacLean

At 91 now, Cherry is trying to enjoy as much of life as he can, and should probably take things a bit easier from now on. But in a recent interview, he got his usual brash and heated self towards not a hockey player; but former long-time partner Ron MacLean.
Giving an interview at his home to Joe Warmington; a sportswriter for the Toronto Sun, Cherry explained that he had no time for MacLean anymore due to his attitude after Cherry was let go:
I'm very disappointed in Ron, disappointed he would bring this up.

When asked if MacLean was still allowed to visit, or if the two were friends, Cherry coldly explained the situation:
The wife doesn't like it. I have no feelings on it. I don't have any feelings towards Ron. Almost 40 years; I know one thing I'm disappointed.

When Cherry was asked if he wanted to talk to Ron, or if they had talked at all:
No, we haven't. No, I don't really want to talk to Ron about this.

No matter your feelings on Cherry's actions previously, you can clearly see and listen to his heartbreak over MacLean's actions.

Ron MacLean under fire for comments on Don Cherry's health

What caused this whole situation is MacLean insinuating that Cherry's scandal was an easy way for Don to step away, something Cherry disagrees with:
It was a bit clumsy, but it was the right outcome. Ultimately, that's what needed to happen.

It was liberating. Don needed out and the time was right. Remembrance Day was his last swing, taking a stance that's unpopular, but that feels good in his world. - Ron MacLean

Cherry retorted:
No, I wasn't looking for a way out. I was surprised. I never even thought of that.

Plus MacLean also spoke of times where Cherry's health got the better of him, a claim that 'Grapes' staunchly refutes:
I didn't go to the hospital in Boston. I went to my room. I was pretty tired but I just didn't go to the hospital.

The bad blood between the two has reached a critical level, and the fact that MacLean and Cherry had a falling out after such a long time spent together is heartbreaking to many fans who grew up with them weekly.
It's a lot of he said, he said. We won't know who is truly right, but one thing we know for certain is that this relationship has become some pretty sour grapes.
