Brayden Schenn's name has been linked to the Maple Leafs for a while now, and a new report shows the team may be one step closer to being able to acquire him for their top-six per Elliotte Friedman.

With the Maple Leafs trying to add a top-six presence to their lineup, they certainly have a few premium choices and have been linked to names like Nazem Kadri, Bryan Rust and Jared McCann in recent weeks.
One name they were attached to for a good chunk of time this season is Brayden Schenn, as rumors around a potential deal swirled at trade deadline time, but GM Doug Armstrong kept him aboard.

Brayden Schenn could be back on the market

However, if Elliotte Friedman is to be believed, there may be a chance that he's on the move.
Speaking on his 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman touched on the Blues and Schenn's relationship but also mentioned that his full no-movement clause ended up becoming a partial on July 1:
Brayden Schenn goes from a full no move clause to a partial, and the last couple of years some teams, and I know certain teams like Toronto, like Ottawa, who could be gauging interest.

We know that Toronto had some interest at the deadline, but nothing materialized, but with a new direction and some aggressive business; they could land that top-six player.
Schenn, 33, is as remarkably consistent and reliable as ever. A two-way menace who loves to be physical, Schenn could give Toronto a wildly deep lineup, and create a lot of magic on the second line.

Brayden Schenn would be the ultimate addition to the Maple Leafs

Though he struggled a bit this season, he still managed 50 points in 82 games (18 goals, 32 assists) but has eight 20+ goal seasons under his belt. Schenn also added 55 blocks, 194 hits, and a 52.3% face-off win percentage.
A big reason why St. Louis won the Cup in 2019, and a big reason why they surprised everyone this season, Schenn is a true impact player at both ends of the ice.
But he's also a bit costly at $6.5-million, though Toronto can move out names like David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok to open up space, and the question of what assets appeal to Doug Armstrong is up for debate.
But reuniting with his former head coach where he found the most success, in the league's most prominent and prolific franchise with the chance to be a hero?
It sounds appealing, but is it actually attainable?
Only time will tell.
