NHL Insider Chris Johnston revealed the potential contract amount for Brad Marchand this upcoming free agency, and it's expected to be quite the hefty raise.

Though he's right in the middle of fighting for a Stanley Cup, Brad Marchand has been thinking about free agency coming up, and with his intentions to test the market and keep all options open, it's anyone's guess where he ends up.

But according to NHL Insider Chris Johnston, who was speaking on TSN's OverDrive program, he believes that Marchand's deal this summer is going to come with a big raise, and teams better be ready for a commitment:
I'd expect the next deal to be around $8 million for 3-4 years on his contract.

It's quite the pay raise for a player who has never exceeded $6.5M for his career in terms of salary, and it might seem crazy paying a 37 year old that much money, but you're getting something special in Marchand.

Is Brad Marchand worth an $8M per year salary?

All the logic in the world should say no, given that time is working against him, but's also been his greatest asset.
He's stuck around so long because he's been elite at both ends of the ice, and has been one of the NHL's most efficient and reliable postseason producers over the past 15 years.
Not only does Marchand have nearly 1,000 career points (980) but he also has 1,100 games experience, has already won a Stanley Cup, and his 155 points in 178 games proves that when it comes to it most; he shows up.
It's also hard to argue the other side of the game with Marchand which is his innate ability to frustrate and get under the skin of his opponents and make them falter, and he's not opposed to using some dirty tactics to get things to go his way.
Incredibly frustrating to play against, he's the guy you love to hate, but hate to love because for as much as he's torched teams in the past; he's been undeniable.
Which means teams like Toronto, Montreal, Vegas, and Los Angeles are ones that are going to be trying to take a crack at Marchand the most, and while it's certainly an investment; there's no denying what he brings.
He's already achieved legendary status, and if he gets a chance to win a second Cup with Florida, while leading the way as he usually does?
That bank account is going to be sitting pretty come July 1.
