James Mirtle of The Athletic revealed on the JD Bunkis what the Maple Leafs could get for a Mitch Marner sign-and-trade, if they are able to get there first.

If Toronto wants to get something in return for an imminent Mitch Marner departure, their best bet would be a sign-and-trade deal, where the team can extend him a maximum amount, then ship him off elsewhere to recoup some assets.

But if they wanted to get there, it's all dependent on Marner accepting a swap, and according to James Mirtle; he's not making it easy whatsoever.
It seems like Marner is more focused on seeing how much money he can make this summer, as opposed to trying to help the team on his way out, and it just reiterates past reports that perhaps he's a bit more self-indulgent than he seems at first glance.
He already rejected several deals elsewhere, and whether it's ego, a desire to win in Toronto or some combination of both; he hasn't been to kind to the team in recent negotiations.
Though Marner has dealt with his fair share of criticism and often times that tends to boil over into his personal life, and with how rabid the fanbase is, it's logical to see why he would want to leave, and might not want to help them out.

What would Toronto even get for a Marner trade?

Mirtle believes they can get a second-round pick for Marner, and while that seems like an underpayment, it's at least a solid asset.
However, he could end up with a team like Vegas, who needs to dump cap and could dangle William Karlsson and their 2nd or 3rd round pick in 2025 for Marner.
It's not a replacement for Marner, it's hard to replicate a perennial 90-100 point player, but Karlsson adds a new element to Toronto's team, brings in a brand new face who is good at both ends, and gives them a 2C which they need.
He's also much cheaper than Marner on a shorter deal, so bringing him in for a couple seasons while the team can analyze where they want to go and who to add might be their best bet.
Karlsson is coming off a rough season where he dealt with injuries, however has scored 152 goals over his last seven seasons, he's won 51.2% of his face-offs for his career, and he's still only 32; he's got lots left in the tank.
But it seems unlikely they are going to get their pending superstar free agent to play ball, which is a shame, but it's ultimately Marner's choice at the end of the day.
