Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser re-signed on July 1, and according to Nick Kypreos, the Maple Leafs had an offer on the table that included a lot of money.

Although he was expected to be one of the biggest fish on the free agent market, thanks to the re-signings of Sam Bennett, Brad Marchand, and Aaron Ekblad, plus the trade of Mitch Marner to Vegas, Brock Boeser decided to stick with the Canucks.
Signing a massive seven-year, $50-million dollar extension, the long-time fan favorite is set to keep the Canucks happy for several years, and will be no doubt their top star alongside Quinn Hughes, hoping to bring a Cup to the West Coast.

Toronto was heavily involved in the Brock Boeser sweepstakes

But according to Maple Leafs analyst Nick Kypreos, the Toronto Maple Leafs were willing to pay a hefty amount to lure Boeser away, especially since their first option wasn't available:
The word is that the Leafs may have offered a higher annual salary than the $7.25 million (U.S.) that he took to stay with the Vancouver Canucks, but on a much shorter-term deal than the seven years he agreed to.
It's unknown the exact amount that Toronto would have offered Boeser, but considering that he is making $7.25-million on this current deal, and the Maple Leafs were willing to pay Marchand a lot; it's safe to say the number could have reached $8.5-million per year or higher.
There's a good reason why Toronto wanted to target Boeser, as he's been one of the most reliable and consistent offensive producers since being drafted 23rd overall in 2015.
In 554 games with Vancouver, Boeser has 434 points (204G, 230A) showing remarkable consistency and being able to be a great mix of scoring, playmaking, defense and discipline.
He's also a menace on the man advantage, putting up 73 PPG, which works out to be over 35% of his goal-production in his career. Unfortunately he hasnt been a big factor in the playoffs though through no fault of his own.
Vancouver has only made the playoffs twice in nine years with the team, and hasn't made it past the second round in either of those seasons. The Canucks already acquired Evander Kane this offseason, so that gives Boeser a dangerous weapon alongside him and could push his number even higher.
Toronto did well though, acquiring both Nicolas Roy and Matias Maccelli through trades, and added a lot of depth for their bottom six, a much needed insurance policy given the risk of injury.
Boeser would have been the perfect addition and may have helped put Toronto over the top, but for now they'll have to watch him flourish in Vancouver.
For his sake, let's hope Boeser picked the right horse in the race.
