The Toronto Maple Leafs could have added a top NCAA free agent in Karsen Dorwart, however the highly-prized forward signed with a surprise team.
All three signings are very savvy for Brad Treliving, and while he missed out on
Jack Williams and
Caleb MacDonald, there were still big names available for the taking. However, one of the biggest ones has been scooped up by an unsuspecting team.
Karsen Dorwart: Philadelphia's Big Free Agent Splash
It looks like the Philadelphia Flyers won the
Dorwart sweepstakes, as the coveted free agent has a deal in place to become part of a rebuilding team that could definitely utilize his talents on the ice.
The Sherwood, Oregon native put up a fantastic three-year stint at Michigan State with 93 points in 111 games (38G, 55A) and while his season didn't end exactly the way he wanted, he can confidently move on to bigger and potentially better things.
The Flyers organization has a lot of interesting young players like
Matvei Michkov, Egor Zamula,
Jakob Pelletier and
Owen Tippett, and while they may have just let their head coach go to instil a different look into the organization.
Toronto could have definitely used a player the caliber of Dorwart, and though the team would love to sign as many of these players as possible, there's not enough room for them on the team; especially with a clogged up Marlies team as well.
But the future is bright for Philly, and with Dorwart now in the fold, it looks like they rebuild may have been accelerated just a little bit more.
